TitleToman Branch Library, exterior view, ca. 1970s
DescriptionThe Toman Branch Library at 4005 West 27th Street was built in 1927, and originally served a population that included many Bohemians and Czechoslovakians. A large special collection of books honoring Tomas Masaryk, first president of Czechoslovakia (1918-1935), was held by the Toman Branch. Early branch activities included the "Toman Forum, " a public programming series which drew prominent speakers to the library. In the 1970s, Toman Branch Library collections shifted to accommodate the needs of the large Mexican American community which had moved into the Little Village neighborhood.
