DescriptionComprising over 36, 000 square feet, the Legler Branch Library became a popular social and cultural meeting place for Chicagoans living on the West Side. Based on these factors and large circulation statistics, Legler became the regional library for the West Side just three years after its opening. During the 1970's, the services and collections of Legler werer scaled to serve the community as a neighborhood branch library. Legler held the records of the West Side Historical Association, which was transferred to to the library's Special Collections & Preservation Division in the late 1970's.
