| Title | Chicago Public Library Bookmobile Service, ca. 1940 |
| Description | The Legler Regional Library's experimental trailer service began on April 19, 1940, and was staffed by two librarians, Irmgard Bradley and Catherine Vitha. This new method of delivery used a small trailer hooked up to a car. Later, specially outfitted vehicles called bookmobiles carried larger collections, were staffed with a small circulation desk, and were driven by professional drivers. The Legler Branch also initiated a juvenile trailer service in 1940, serving the Peck and Mary Lyon schools. Black and white photo, 10 x 8 in. |
