DescriptionEdwin Forbes (1839-1895) worked as a field artist for Frank Leslies Illustrated Newspaper from 1862 to 1864. He covered the Army of the Potomac. Leslies employed artists like Forbes to draw battle scenes, life in camp, portraits of soldiers and other views. These drawings were then made into engravings that the paper published. In 1876 Forbes published a portfolio of etchings based on his Civil War sketches.
