| Description | This hand drawn map guided Union troops as they fought to capture Atlanta in 1864. According to the records of the Grand Army of the Republic, the map was found on the body of Major General James B. McPherson, July 22, 1864, stained with his blood. It was given by McPherson's mother to Captain David H. Gile, who served on McPherson's staff and accompanied his body home. |
