DescriptionAccording to Grand Army of the Republic records, this piece of white bunting was part of the truce flag under which Confederate General Simon Bolivar Buckner surrendered Fort Donelson, Tennessee, to General Ulysses S. Grant on February 16, 1862. It was here that Grant issued his famous message: no terms except unconditional and immediate surrender can be accepted.
