DescriptionSilk campaign ribbon from the 1860 presidential election. John Chester Buttre (1821-1893) engraved the image of Abraham Lincoln, which was based on a Mathew Brady photograph known as the Cooper Union photograph. Brady made the photograph while Lincoln was in New York to give a speech at the Cooper Union in February 1860. The image was used throughout the campaign, including on campaign ribbons such as this one.
