DescriptionMayor Harold Washington met former Wisconsin Governor Anthony Earl before addressing 150 members of the Lake Michigan Federation at their Annual Rachel Carson Award Dinner, March 22, 1987. Washington commented on the 1987 award recipient, Senator Gaylord Nelson, " We all owe a debt to Senator Nelson who impelled a national environmental movement forward with a single good idea - Earth Day - and significantly improved the health of the nation with his work to ban DDT, Agent Orange and detergent phosphates in the Great Lakes."
