| Title | Mayor Washington's 64th birthday celebration |
| Description | On April 15, 1986, Mayor Harold Washington turned 64 years old. His fiancee, Mary Ella Smith, along with attorney Scott Hodes and the Mayor Washington Birthday Committee threw "The Party of a Lifetime" for him at Navy Pier. As bands played Stevie Wonder's "Happy Birthday to You", he blew out the candles on an 8 foot birthday cake. Funds raised from the party went to the city-wide voter registration and voter education programs. |
