TitleMayor Washington's 64th birthday celebration
DescriptionOn April 15, 1986, Mayor Harold Washington turned 64 years old. His fiancee, Mary Ella Smith, along with attorney Scott Hodes and the Mayor Washington Birthday Committee threw "The Party of a Lifetime" for him at Navy Pier. As bands played Stevie Wonder's "Happy Birthday to You", he blew out the candles on an 8 foot birthday cake. Funds raised from the party went to the city-wide voter registration and voter education programs.
