DescriptionMayor Harold Washington helped Cheyney University celebrate its 150th birthday on May 7, 1987. Cheyney, located 30 miles west of Philadelphia, is known as the oldest historically black institution of higher education in the country. The photo session with Mayor Washington was to be used in the institution's promotional and fundraising alumni brochures and to attract students from the Chicago area.
