| Description | The western approach ramp for the BP Bridge is outlined in rebar, or reinforcing bar, and was later cast in concrete.
While the shape of the Bridge was still being decided, architect Frank Gehry agreed to move each end to better fit Millennium Park as a whole. When the design of the Lurie Garden was finalized, Gehry moved the landing of the western approach ramp of the Bridge to line up with the beginning of the Seam which separates the Light and Dark Plates of the Lurie Garden, effectively pulling two distinct attractions of Millennium Park together. Similarly, Gehry's early Bridge designs had the eastern approach ramp begin at the less popular northern end of Daley Bicentennial Plaza. He was persuaded to move it more into the middle of the Plaza, closer to the lakefront, where it is now. |
