TitleJay Pritzker Pavilion, construction of Great Lawn, October 28, 2003
DescriptionA truck pours gravel onto the future site of the Great Lawn, atop layers of green roofing material for drainage, insulation and waterproofing. The gravel is part of the drainage layer of the green roof, which keeps the lawn from becoming waterlogged and allows it to dry quickly after rain. Built atop two stories of parking garages and railroad tracks, Millennium Park is one of the largest intensive green roofs in the world. The trellis is visible overhead.
