TitleJay Pritzker Pavilion, construction of Great Lawn, November 21, 2003
DescriptionA layer of gravel on the future site of the Great Lawn. The trellis is visible overhead. The gravel is part of the drainage layer of the green roof, which keeps the lawn from becoming waterlogged and allows it to dry quickly after rain. Built atop two stories of parking garages and railroad tracks, Millennium Park is one of the largest intensive green roofs in the world.
