Jay Pritzker Pavilion, Great Lawn, April 23, 2004
TitleJay Pritzker Pavilion, Great Lawn, April 23, 2004
DescriptionThe Jay Pritzker Pavilion, trellis and Great Lawn. Slightly less than three months before Millennium Park opened to the public sod had been laid for the Great Lawn and automatic sprinklers kept it watered. The Great Lawn is 325 feet wide and 625 feet long, an area greater than two football fields. The Lawn can comfortably accommodate between 6, 000 and 7, 000 people at a time, in addition to the 4, 000 people in the fixed seating area. The overhead trellis system delivers second-to-none sound clarity equally to those at the front and the back of the Lawn, achieving architect Frank Gehry's goal that everyone in the audience, wherever they sit, are part of the musical experience happening on the stage.
