TitleJay Pritzker Pavilion, steel skeleton, ca. August 26, 2002
DescriptionView from below of the steel I-beams forming the skeletal structure of the Pavilion's roof. In designing the stage area, Frank Gehry took great care to ensure that the sense of intimacy enjoyed by those in the fixed seating area during a performance extended to those near the back of the Great Lawn. To do this he enlarged the stage to an opening of almost 100 feet wide by 50 feet tall. To create this vast, column-free space a double row of 12 huge trusses, shown here, supported by truss girders, hold up the roof.
