| Title | Crown Fountain, site excavation, September 2, 2003 |
| Description | The site of Crown Fountain as construction was underway. Located at the southwest corner of Millennium Park, the Crown Fountain enjoys very high visibility with pedestrians on Michigan Avenue and with visitors to the Art Institute of Chicago to the south. The scale of the fountain was geared to the scale of Chicago and the neighboring Michigan Avenue street wall. When Lester Crown asked Plensa to reduce the scale of the fountain to cut costs, Plensa replied that the fountain was the correct size for the city of Chicago, that if Chicago itself could be reduced, then the fountain could be smaller. The size of the fountain remained unchanged. |
