| Title | Crown Fountain, meeting in Chicago, May 13, 2002 |
| Description | Testing the LED display through different glass blocks in an alley in Chicago. One of the most important aspects of Crown Fountain that the project team worked on was the clarity of the images projected by the light-emitting diodes, or LED screens. Glass refracts light and several different types of glass bricks were tested to get the clearest image without distorting the color. In addition to this, the project team tried different sizes of glass bricks and different types of "mortar” to hold the bricks in place. To achieve the optimum clarity the glass bricks finally chosen were 5 inches tall, 10 inches wide, and 1 7/8 inches thick, making them more similar to tiles than bricks. |
