TitleCloud Gate, grinding, May 19, 2005
DescriptionA worker grinds the sculpture using a platen sander (a.k.a an air-driven ten pound belt sander). In addition to grinding and polishing the seams where the plates were welded, a two to three feet wide area surrounding the seams had to be ground and polished to create a uniform surface. Small imperfections required some areas of the sculpture to be reworked over and over again during the arduous polishing process.
