| Description | Looking north toward the partially completed sculpture over which a weatherproof tent is being constructed. The tent provided shelter for the workers during cold weather, and added a cloak of secrecy as the sculpture took shape. The temperature inside the tent was controlled so that the metal of the sculpture would not expand and contract during construction due to fluctuations in temperature. The tent also protected passersby from gasses and particulate matter that were a byproduct of the welding and polishing processes used during construction. Buildings visible in the background include the Smurfit-Stone Building, Millennium Park Plaza, One Prudential Plaza, and the top of Two Prudential Plaza. |
