| Description | Looking west along East Monroe Street Street, just west of Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. The engineering firm of Wiss Janney Elstner Associates did a structural review in preparation for the move of the sculpture. One of their recommendations was that shoring towers be installed beneath East Monroe Street to support the 110 ton weight of the sculpture. There is a large parking garage underground at East Monroe Street near Columbus Drive, and the underground McCormick Busway crosses East Monroe Street just east of there. Buildings visible in the background include CNA Plaza, the Borg-Warner Building, the People's Gas Building, Lake View Building, Wolberg Hall, the Monroe Building, Mid-Continental Plaza, the University Club, and Chase Tower. This is one of a series of photographs that follow the intended route the sculpture was to take from the Queen's Landing at Monroe Harbor, north along Lake Shore Drive, west on East Monroe Street, and north through Millennium Park to SBC Plaza. The plan to move the fully assembled sculpture from a barge in Monroe Harbor to Millennium Park was cancelled when it was decided that the sculpture would be trucked to Chicago in pieces, and assembled on site. |
