| Title | Cloud Gate, fabrication, ca. December 17, 2002 |
| Description | View from above of workers shaping a curved steel plate in the fabrication shop at Performance Structures Inc. (PSI). After plasma cutting the steel plates, a custom made roller, similar to an English roller, was built by PSI to roll the steel plates into their curved shapes. The 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch thick plates are shaped by moving them between pressurized rollers; the pressure on the rollers is adjusted to alter the degree of curvature. This process was used to get the plates to within one-hundredth of an inch of their required dimensions. |
