| Description | Close-up of the underside of the cornice of the Millennium Monument at Wrigley Square. The Y-shaped symbol in the corner of the cornice is the Chicago municipal device, a motif that is visible in architecture and signs throughout the Chicago area. The arms of the "Y" represent the North and South branches of the Chicago River. Some of the elements of classical entablature that are visible in this image are mutules (the block-like shapes on the underside of the cornice), guttae (rows of droplets on the mutules), egg-and-dart moulding, and dentils (the row of tooth-like shapes). |
