DescriptionCity editor of the Chicago Bee in the 1930's and 1940's, Marian Campfield was directly responsible for the Bee's general reporting, and ensured a remarkable coverage of women's events. She had earlier been married to Frank Mitchell, whose family owned the St. Louis Argus. When the Bee folded in 1947, Campfield was hired as the women's editor of the Chicago Defender.
