TitleHorace Cayton in this office at Parkway Community House, 1941
DescriptionHired in 1939 as director of Good Shepherd Community Center, Cayton supervised its move to new quarters at 5120 S. Parkway (now King Drive), and suggested that the name of the institution be changed to Parkway Community House. Cayton's experience as a sociologist, and his friendships with Richard Wright, Langston Hughes, Arna Bontemps, and other key figures of the Chicago Renaissace, helped shape Parkway's innovative programs.
