| Title | Earl "Fatha" Hines, 1934 |
| Description | Born in Pennsylvania, Earl "Fatha" Hines moved to Chicago in 1924. His jazz piano was quickly recognized as among the best in a city then crowded with jazz musicians. By 1928, Hines organized his own big band, which played at the opening of the Grand Terrace nightclub, and stayed on through World War II. It was in Hines' band that Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Parker created some of the earliest expressions of the jazz that came to be known as "bebop." |
