DescriptionOne of the most well-maintained beaches of the South Side recreation areas was Nichols' Beach. It was run by George Nichols, whose residence adjoined the beach. Nichols' close proximity and vigilance over the beach may have accounted for its clean reputation. The beach was discontinued when the area from 75th to 77th streets was cleared to make way for a larger city-run beach.
