| Description | Photograph. Built in 1893 for the Lake Michigan & Lake Superior Transportation Company, the Manitou provided express service for the Chicago-Mackinac Island route for 40 years. During this period she changed hands several times: in 1903, she went to the Manitou S.S. Company; in 1908, to the Northern Michigan Transportation Company (as shown here); and in 1920, to the Michigan Transit Corporation. In 1933, she changed hands again, and was renamed the Isle Royale. |
