| Title | S.S. Illinois in Chicago, 1917 |
| Description | Photograph. A combination freight-and-passenger steamer, the all-steel Illinois, sister ship to the S.S. Missouri, was built in South Chicago in 1899 for the Northern Michigan Transit Company. In 1922, after this photograph was taken, ownership passed to the Chicago-based Goodrich Transit Company. After Goodrich went into receivership, the Illinois was sold to a Milwaukee attorney in 1933 for $1, 500.00. It was never returned to service. The steamer was scrapped in 1948. |
