TitleIllinois Central Rail-Road Company Offer (sic) for Sale Over 2, 400, 000 Acres, Selected Prairie, Farm and Wood Lands
DescriptionIn the decade between 1850 and 1860, the Illinois Central had transformed the face of the Chicago lakefront, and had stimulated the development of the city's outlying areas. The era of railroad growth in Chicago paralleled the growth of timber shipping in the area as the number of lumber vessels arriving at Chicago's harbor matched the demand for timber for the railroad track.
