TitleCourt of Honor, ca. 1893
DescriptionIn 1890, nearly twenty years after the Great Chicago Fire and at the zenith of his career as an urban planner and landscape architect, Frederick Law Olmsted found the opportunity to resurrect his plan for the landscape of the City when he received the commission to lay out the grounds for the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition. The World's Fair of 1893, a commemoration of the 400th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' voyage to the New World, forged the foundation of Olmsted's collaborative partnership with famed Chicago architect Daniel H. Burnham. Burnham, who was the Exposition's Director of Works, was charged with developing the designs and overall scheme for the Fair's great buildings. Facsimile watercolor.
