Chicago Harbor, from the Rush Street Bridge, from Chicago Illustrated
Chicago Harbor, from the Rush Street Bridge, from Chicago Illustrated
TitleChicago Harbor, from the Rush Street Bridge, from Chicago Illustrated
DescriptionThis moonlit view of the harbor is set at the mouth of the Chicago River as it empties into Lake Michigan. A sand bar at the mouth of the River obstructed entrance to heavily freighted vessels, causing serious disasters in inclement weather. Once the bar was dredged out, entrance to the River became safe for vessels of all sizes and loads.
