DescriptionThis view of the Great Central Passenger Depot was one of the most familiar scenes in Chicago in the 1860s. Trains from the Illinois Central Railroad, the Michigan Central and the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad were protected on their departure from the station by the breakwater, which was constructed of piles and filled-in with stone.
