DescriptionThe World's Columbian Exposition ran from May 1 to October 30, 1893. The Transportation Building's "Golden Doorway" was located on the east side of the building. "This grand portal featured a series receding arches entirely overlaid in gold leaf....The space immediately above the entry was ornamented with striking allegorical figures and groups in bas-relief." The building was designed by Adler and Sullivan who did not follow the classical designs of most other large buildings at the fair. Bolotin, Norman and Christine Laing.
