Buzzard's Roost, Georgia
TitleBuzzard's Roost, Georgia
DescriptionBlack-and-white reproduction of original albumen print of Buzzard's Roost. Source: Barnard, George N. Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign, Embracing Scenes of the Occupation of Nashville, the Great Battles around Chattanooga and Lookout Mountain, the Campaign of Atlanta, March to the Sea, and the Great Raid through the Carolinas. New York, 1866. "The Buzzard's Roost Pass in the Rocky-face Ridge received its name from the fact that its vicinity was for a long time the resort of persons whose character, if they had any, was doubtful in the extreme. The Pine-top whiskey made near, was said to be the worst and cheapest that was ever made in the State of Georgia. Whiskey and bowie-knife must had done their work, for the Buzzard's Roost is as uninhabitable a locality as one can find in that very poor country, Northwestern Georgia." Barnard, George N. Photographic Views of Sherman's Campaign. (New York: Dover Publications, 1977), p. xi.
