On the 14th of May the divisions of Gerenal Newton (formerly Sheridan's), of the Fourth Corps, and General Judah, of the Twenty-third, made a determined attack on the rebel right. Although they did not succeed in carrying the entire position, they were enabled to secure such a line as to make their position annoying and to attract a considerable rebel force to the vicinity."
